A proud day for the Town

In October 2023, the town of Pudsey came together for a deeply poignant and memorable occasion with the unveiling of two beautifully crafted memorial benches at Pudsey Cenotaph.
It was a privilege for the Pudsey & Farsley Branch of the Royal British Legion to play a part in the day and to help record the event on behalf of the community. The ceremony was simple, respectful, and fitting for such an important addition to our place of remembrance.
The benches were the vision of two dedicated Branch members and Pudsey residents, Steve Sanderson and Malcolm Booth, whose hard work and determination brought the project to fruition. Their commitment ensured that these lasting tributes now sit alongside the Cenotaph, offering a place for quiet reflection for many years to come.
Generous funding for the benches was provided by the Pudsey Freemasons, whose support made the project possible. Their contribution stands as a powerful example of community partnership in honouring those who have served.
The unveiling took place on Saturday 21st October at 11am, hosted by the Pudsey & Farsley Royal British Legion. The service was attended by distinguished guests including the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Stan Hardy, and the Provincial Grand Master of Yorkshire, West Riding, James Newman.
Music for the occasion was provided by the 2387 Squadron Air Cadets Band, whose professionalism and presence added greatly to the dignity of the service.
The event was warmly supported by Armed Forces veterans and local residents, reflecting once again the strong sense of community in Pudsey and the shared commitment to remembrance. In keeping with the values of the Royal British Legion, the day demonstrated service, respect, and unity — ensuring that the sacrifices of the past continue to be honoured in the present.
With thanks to Glenn Taylor for the event photography.
